Washougal High School Seniors Lauren Bennett and Amara Farah were named this year’s recipients of the Public School Employees (PSE) Washougal Chapter $1,000 Len Bottemiller Memorial Scholarships.
The annual scholarships are awarded to applicants who submit letters of recommendation, a personal essay, transcripts, and evidence of participation in the community.
“Lauren and Amara both exemplify the value of hard work, rigorous studies, and commitment to higher education and community service,” said Lisa Young, PSE Membership Officer, Scholarship Committee Chair, and Washougal School District Extended Learning Manager.
Bennett will attend California Polytechnic State University – San Luis Obispo and major in aerospace engineering. Her goals include working at mission control for a manned lunar mission. “I am honored to receive this scholarship and thankful for the support it will provide toward college expenses,” she said.
Farah has been accepted to Western Washington University and will major in music with the goal of earning a Ph.D. to teach music at the university level. “I am so grateful to have received this scholarship and excited for what the future holds,” she said.
“Lauren and Amara represent the best of Washougal students and the PSE Washougal Chapter is honored to help them further their educational and professional goals,” said Young.
