Congratulations to Washougal middle school musicians who will be playing with the North County Middle School Honor Band in January 2018.

Jemtegaard Middle School students selected are Paige Maas 8th – flute, Zoey Hill 7th – bass clarinet and Jocelyn Bowman 8th – flute. Canyon Creek Middle School students who earned spots in the band are Rose Hinchlif 8th – sax, Henry Jones 8th – trombone and Immi Hinchlif 8th – percussion.

Hill is excited for the challenge to play with a new group of musicians. “I know everyone I play in band with now,” she said. “It is good to learn how to adjust to new musical environments.”

Students were required to fill out an application describing musical goals and accomplishments to be considered for selection in to the honor band. Recommendations from their band instructors were also considered in the process.

According to JMS Band Instructor Dr. Jennifer Snapp, students will be playing with the best student musicians from throughout North Clark County, receive instruction from collegiate-level conductors and perform more complex and difficult music.

The Honor Band will practice as a group only twice, the evening of Friday, January 19 and the morning of Saturday, January 20. Their efforts will culminate in a free performance for family and the community on Saturday evening at Hockinson High School.
