Students at Jemtegaard and Canyon Creek participated in Red Ribbon Week activities October 24-28 during their lunches to earn free swag provided by UNITE! Community Coalition. Students pledged to be safe, healthy and drug free and made a paper chain with names of all students who signed the pledge.
“This week has built excitement around our prevention clubs at each school,” said Wendy Butler, student assistance counselor. The school’s prevention club meets during lunch each month and is open to all students to promote education and drug-free school wide events. “My hope is that we can get students thinking about what they enjoy, what is positive in their life and what they choose to do instead of doing drugs,” said Butler. “We refer to this as their ‘Natural High’. For many of them it is reading, sports, acting, art, music and/or hanging out with friends. Our students can see that life is full of positive options.”
Student Jace Poulsen organized a Red Ribbon Drone picture event at JMS. Approximately 175-200 students dressed in red in support of Red Ribbon Week on Friday.
