A Community Resource Fair was held Tuesday, October 27 at Hathaway Elementary School gymnasium from 1:00 – 6:30 PM.   “The goal of the fair was to provide a place for families to connect to the amazing resources in our community,” said Nancy Boon, WSD Family Resource Coordinator, adding “And we have amazing resources here!”

The fair was focused on Hathaway families, but, if successful, will grow to reach district wide next year. The event was held in conjunction with conference week when many families are in the school already. In addition, the Hathaway Boosters Book Fair was being held in the library and a free dinner was provided. “The dinner was created and funded by Refuel Washougal, Columbia Ridge Senior Center, Meals on Wheels, St. John’s Presbyterian Church and the Ya Ya Girls,” Boon said. “They are all so wonderful for doing this!”

Parent and new Washougal resident, Jessica Hooper, saw the sign at the school and decided to check out the fair. “My four-year-old daughters, Grace and Caitlyn, will be attending Hathaway so I took the opportunity to come in and look around,” she said. “I had no idea so many great resources are available in the community.” Approximately 65 families attended the fair.

This is the first resource fair organized by Boon who said local organizations were happy to provide information about their services and programs. “I bet 90% of the groups I asked agreed to come,” she said. Fair participants were: 211 info, Jack, Will and Rob Center, Real Life Counseling, Community Education, Lifeline Connections, Girl Scouts, Pure Wellness, Washougal Sport and Spine, Festival of Trees, Catholic Family Services, Southwest Washington Childcare Consortium, Refuel Washougal, Friends of Refuel Washougal, Unite!, Fort Vancouver Regional Library, Peace Health, Community Housing Resource Center, Sylvan Learning Center, 1 to 1 Tutoring, Sea Mar and Hathaway Boosters
