The halls and classrooms of Canyon Creek Middle School were extra crowded Tuesday, October 27 as they welcomed approximately 70 moms and dads to the third annual “Bring Your Parent to School Day.”
“It’s just a regular day of learning,” said Principal Sandi Christensen. “Teachers are holding class as usual so parents get to see firsthand what a morning at middle school is really like.” According to Christensen, past years’ parent surveys revealed that they were surprised at how exhausting it can be to sit and listen, stay focused and remember details and instructions. “Their favorite parts of the visit have ranged from a math quiz to PE.”
Jen Haralson came to school with 7th grade daughter, Brynn. “I just love the opportunity to see her in a class environment. Some middle school students don’t really talk about things so it is nice to see what she is doing on a typical day in school,” she said.
“It is important for my kids to see that we are here for them and interested in what they are doing in school,” said Susan Mitchell, there with 7th grade sons, Zeke and Elijah Hopmeier-Mitchell. “I used to be at the school a lot more, but now look for chances to come in and see what the boys are working on.”
Jemtegaard Middle School welcomed more than 100 parents last week on October 21, to experience a similar event.
