Hello Cape/Canyon Families!

The Washougal School District library team knows how important access to books is, especially during this time of remote learning. While we believe eBooks have many benefits and are a valuable reading format, we also understand not everyone has access to the technology required for digital book downloads. In addition, we know many people prefer the comfort of print books, even more so right now. For these reasons, we have put a plan in place to safely get print library books into your children’s hands.

Parents and students will be able to request available titles to be delivered on the weekly materials bus every Tuesday. There are two steps to place a request for books:

Step 1: Go to the Cape/Canyon Destiny Library Catalog and search for titles of interest.  You can browse by topic or identify recently added books by using the ribbons on the home page. You can also use the search bar at the top of the page to look for specific authors or titles. Books that are currently available will have a small green triangle that says “in” on the left upper corner of the book image.

Step 2: Once you know which book(s) you would like to request, use this Google Form and fill out the required information (school, student name, contact info, and book title/author).

Please note:

  • Requests must be made by 9 am on Friday for books to be delivered the following Tuesday.
  • Not all requests are guaranteed to be filled. There may be items that become unavailable or multiple requests for the same title. Requests will be filled in the order they are placed. We will try our best to get all requests filled and delivered!
  • The current checkout limit is being increased and all students can now request up to five (5) items at a time.
  • Books will be delivered by the materials bus on Tuesdays, May 12th – June 9th.
  • Books can be returned to the weekly bus as students are finished with them.

Our Destiny collection also includes eBooks and eAudio titles that are available for immediate checkout on electronic devices, such as student iPads. To access these titles, students must be logged in to Destiny before they are given the option to “open” or “checkout” the digital book they are interested in. Specific eBook/eAudio login and checkout directions are on the Cape/Canyon library website, along with additional reading resources temporarily available due to school building closures.

We hope students know how much we miss sharing books with them in the library, and we’re looking forward to reading together again. In the meantime, we are excited for this opportunity to resume checkout services and hope to hear from you soon! If you have any questions about the book request process or digital book checkout, please contact me at [email protected]

Sincerely,
