Cape Families,
I hope you are all enjoying the summer! The Cape Horn-Skye staff is working hard to get ready for the first day of school on August 31st. We are looking forward to having our students here every day this year!
Our office is now open to the public, but be sure to call first before you stop in. Our office staff is also attending training at times and we want to make sure that someone is available to help you.
School hours this year are 8:00 – 2:30 every day, except Wednesdays when students will be released at 1:50.
Back to School Night:
Our Back to School Night will be an in-person event this year. The times have changed slightly. Both Cape and Canyon will have Back to School Night from 4:30 – 6:30. To allow for fewer people in the building at once, we ask families to come to campus based on this schedule:
- We would like families with student last name A-F from 4:30 – 5:00
- We would like families with student last name G-M from 5:00 – 5:30
- We would like families with student last name N-S from 5:30 – 6:00
- We would like families with student last name T-Z from 6:00 – 6:30
We are asking families to follow some guidelines to make this a safe, efficient event for students, families, and staff:
- Only currently enrolled students can attend.
- No more than two adults accompanying a child into the school building.
- Limit time in classrooms to introductions and dropping of supplies. There will be time later in the year for conferences, etc.
- Masks and social distancing are required for all students and adults who enter the building.
The Cape Horn-Skye Boosters have arranged for the Kona Ice truck to be in our parking lot for families to purchase a treat!

COVID Safety Protocols:
We are excited that this year we are starting school with full in-person learning for our kids! However, we still will have many safety protocols in place, especially with the Delta variant spreading rapidly:
- Masks are required for all students, staff, and visitors when inside the school building. This is a legal requirement from Washington state and is not a local decision. Masks are not required when outside.
- Distancing: Our goal is to have all of our student desks at least three feet apart, per health department recommendations. During meal times when students are unmasked, they will be seated six feet apart.
- We will encourage hand washing and the use of hand sanitizer as needed.
Student Meal Information:
Our school district culinary program creates chef-inspired, scratch-made meals every day, which are FREE for all students during the 2021-2022 school year. Our team is proud to be serving deli sandwiches on whole wheat with baby carrots and fruit for lunch, and yogurt parfaits with granola for breakfast on the first day of school. You can find the breakfast and lunch menus on our culinary page, updated each month. The September lunch menu will be available soon. WSD is an equal opportunity provider and employer.
Free/Reduced Lunch Information:
Families should still submit a new Free & Reduced Meal Application each school year by the 30th day of school. The Free & Reduced application provides discounts for fees, scholarship opportunities and other items. For 2021-2022 year, October 13th is the 30th day of the school year. Any students receiving free or reduced meals on a carry over status from 2021-2022, who have not turned in a new form, will be charged full price starting on October, 13, 2021. Families with questions about their application or who need assistance should contact Julie Ferguson at the District Office, 360-954-3053.
Please read the letter to households, and the consent to share eligibility form which are part of the file linked below to apply.
