The Cape Horn-Skye Elementary first grade classrooms of Darcy Hickey and Nichol Yung enjoyed the new fall tradition of picking apples from the school tree as a part of a science lesson to explore the properties of an apple. “The class asked Mr. Amundson to help reach the really high apples since he is so much taller,” Hickey said.
Experiments and areas of study included parts of an apple, does it sink/float, shapes inside/outside, seeds, etc.
“We saved the seeds to glue on a Social Emotional Learning craft on friendship using the book, ‘Bad Apple’,” said Hickey. “And the best part was eating our apples with peanut butter for our snack. Everyone knows that an apple you pick yourself tastes the best!”
