Melanie Wilson, East County Citizens Alliance Executive Director and active WHS volunteer was recognized with the 2024 Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) Community Leadership Award for the Columbia River Region.
Melanie partnered with staff to found the Community-School Partnership WHS, recruiting community mentors to support students during school each Tuesday and Wednesday. Mentors help students with class assignments, organization and study skills so students stay on top of their classes. Melanie wrote and produced the volunteer orientation handbook.
She has also arranged volunteers to meet with the WHS Craft Club, teaching students to knit! Melanie partnered with the school’s culinary instructor to have students plan a menu and batch cook meals for Washougal’s Refuel meal program for food insecure residents in the fall and winter.
