Washougal School District leaders and school board members invited community members to share ideas about budget reductions needed to address a $3 million shortfall in the 2024-2025 school district budget. The survey was open from January 10 through February 8, and was sent to all district staff and families, in addition to being shared with the community on social media, in the local media, and on the district website. A summary of the survey is available here.
School board members are hosting a third Board Listening Tour where community members can share ideas and ask questions about the budget. The next Listening Tour is on April 9, 2024 from 4:30 to 6:00 PM. A location for the April 9 meeting will be posted on the district website.
Superintendent Dr. Mary Templeton is hosting a Superintendent’s Roundtable event on March 19, 2024 from 6 to 7:30 PM at the Washougal School District Office, 4855 Evergreen Way, Washougal, sharing information about the budget shortfall and gathering feedback from participants. A virtual opportunity for those who are not able to make it in-person is on the same night, from 4:30 to 5:30 PM via Zoom. Click here for information and the link to participate.
An informational session will be added in March for those who wish to participate online. Details will be shared on the district website.
Community members can learn more about the district budget by reviewing information on our budget page, which shares the board presentations outlining our current projection, the shortfall, and the process the district will use to make reductions.
Feedback from these events and the survey will guide the first round of budget reductions. A second round of budget adjustments will be made based on the legislative session outcomes, current year school spending, collective bargaining, and updates to the enrollment forecast.
The feedback shared via the survey has been provided to the school board, and a summary of it is included in the board presentations from January 23 and February 13.
