For many of the WHS sports teams, last week was District 4 Championships. Here is how our Panthers fared:
In boys golf, our team hit the links in the rain over two days, and placed 2nd overall while sending four golfers to state! Congratulations Mason Acker, Brayden Kassel, Mather Minnis, and Keagan Payne, who all will make the trip to the State Tournament, and to coaches Minnis and Walker and team for a great season!
In girls soccer, our Panthers qualified for the District tournament as the Greater Saint Helens League #5 seed, and played up to beat Evergreen Conference #4 seed Black Hills 2-0 on Thursday. On Saturday, we played hard but lost to top-seeded Columbia River. Tuesday, our Panthers played to stay in the tournament at Aberdeen, 6pm, and returned with a 2-1 win.
The team will play against Ridgefield High School on Thursday November 3 at 6 PM in Ridgefield.
In Cross Country, our runners traveled to Woodland for the District 4 Tournament, and both boys and girls teams came back with hardware. In boys, Panthers came home with the 3rd place trophy (out of 15 teams), behind a 2nd place finish by Samuel Grice (one second off 1st). In girls, Sydnee Boothby and Elle Thomas went one and two, and Gracie Perry finished with a top ten performance, to lead our Panthers to the District 4 Girls Cross Country Championship! Congratulations coaches Stinchfield and Seekins, and good luck runners at the state tournament this weekend!
In Girls Swim, four of our Panthers have qualified and will compete at the District 4 Meet, Jessica Nute in the 500 free, 100 back, and relay; Eva Delliquadri in the 100 back and relay; Lorelei Peck in the 200 free, 100 fly, and relay; and Emily Larzalere in multiple events and relay.
Lily Rushlo, Chloe Linde, and Merlo Croswell will be relay subs and have a chance at a wildcard for Districts. Good luck Swimmers!
In Boys Tennis, 3 Panthers went to the District 4 Tourney last week to compete for WHS. In Singles, Tucker Kneipp toughed through an injury to go 1-3, and a 6th place finish. Our Doubles team of Austin Mattern and Evan Elliott also went 1-3 against a very competitive field, and also placed 6th. Thank you team, and coaches Hoisington and Ladage, for a great season!
In Volleyball, our Panthers finish out the regular season with two games this week. We are still in the hunt for a District berth. Let’s get out there and cheer them on as they fight to qualify for post-season play!
In Football, WHS clinched the Greater Saint Helens League Championship, finishing 7-0 in their league and how head to the playoffs. It has been an incredible season for our Panthers, and we keep on rolling! WHS will host a playoff game on Friday 11/4/2022 at 7 PM vs. Shelton.
