The Humane Society will be displaying the student work in their building, located on 192nd Avenue in Vancouver. Robyn shared that “This was a very fun project for the kids to write for an authentic audience and about a topic they really care about.” Real world writing activities like these help students see purpose in the learning, and are a great way Washougal teachers help students connect with the community every day.
Gause fourth grade students in Robyn Riat’s class undertook a meaningful project when learning about persuasive writing. After doing some additional research on effective ways to use persuasive writing, students wrote persuasive paragraphs about animals up for adoption at the Vancouver Humane Society, including artwork to help persuade prospective families to consider adopting their animal.
